There were doubts over Cameron Smith starting in the Melbourne Storm lineup for Round 1, with his first child yet to be born and due any day. However, Storm fans can rest easy now – as the potent hooker is now a proud dad and ready to take his position on the field for Monday Night Football against the NZ Warriors.

His little girl, Jada Grace Smith was born at 1:54pm weighing in at an even eight pounds and both mother and daughter are fine and healthy.

“I was getting a bit worried there because the baby was two days overdue,” said Cameron Smith.

“We thought we were going to have to induce the baby, but luckily Barb went into labour this morning.

“Barb and Jada are both doing really well, and I’m just so glad the wait is finally over.

“It’s a great relief she had the baby before the game on Monday night otherwise I might have had another tough decision to make about whether I played or not.”
