North Queensland Cowboys and Australian half-back Jonathan Thurston has sent a shockwave through the Centenary Test camp today after rolling his ankle during training drills.

Thurston has been taken to hospital for a complete check-up on the injury and more details will be known later in the evening once reports are in.

If the injury turns out to be more severe than first thought, there is virtually no chance of the form half-back to be ready for the game within 24 hours – but sources inside the Kangaroos camp have not ruled out the possibility that he will still play in the clash with New Zealand.

Melbourne Storm’s Cooper Cronk has been called up to join the squad as a precaution and possible cover in the half-back role.

More will be known later once the scans have been assessed by doctors and team medical staff.
