After pressure in recent seasons from juniors at Parramatta, Piggy immediately put his mark on the Super League with two classic Riddell tries from close range.
Wigan getting home 28-24 in the trial match hit-out against former Saints coach Nathan Brown and his Huddersfield outfit. For Piggy it was much like his first taste of NRL, back in 2001 the stocky hooker scored a double on debut for the Dragons to ignite his local career.
Piggy barged over the line in the 20th minute for first try of the game, the Giants seemingly not doing their homework on the trademark move of Riddell.
With Wigan behind in the backend of the game, Riddell smashed his way over again as his side put on two tries in the last 4 minutes to get themselves home by 4.
“We did some good things but we didn’t do them for long enough or with enough consistency, which is the key to being a good team,” losing coach Nathan Brown said.
“We were negative and that played into Wigan’s hands. The disappointing thing was conceding two tries from dummy-half.”
One of Browns best players was former NRL custodian Brett Hodgson who played solidly for his new club.
