Officials and Police are now looking into the incident, with Watmough allegedly lashing out at a 48-year-old that is tied to the club. The situation taking place at the Wharf Hotel in the Manly area.
After only a week ago putting in a top-shelf performance in the Rugby League World Club Challenge, Watmough could now find himself in hot water if the allegations are proved true.
Apparently the other man involved required hospital treatment after the apparently clash.
Manly forward Watmough has previously faced assault allegations, back in 2007 he was under the pump for allegedly assaulting an ex-girlfriend. An AVO was eventually taken out against the Sea Eagles player, however no official Police charges were ever made. Prior to this, Watmough was in trouble for fighting with his ex-girlfriends cousin – copping a $3000 fine.
While investigations are underway into this latest allegation, no charges have been dished out as yet.
There were apparently several witnesses and hotel camera footage is being reviewed by the authorities.
While only allegations at this stage, the question must be asked – where were the Manly minders? Hasler and the Sea Eagles officials were previously leading the way in having their players assisted and monitored by contracted ‘minders’ when they were having a few drinks. However, because this was an official club event – they may not have been involved.
If proved true, it means more cracks could appear in the Manly armour – proving again, that staying at the top of NRL is just as hard as getting there.
