It was all St George Illawarra early on, with big winger Wendell Sailor giving it to opposing centre Adam McDougall – but the Newcastle Knights’ hung tough and turned in a much better 2nd half – getting home with a 24-18 win at WIN Jubilee Oval last night.
Sailor v MacDougall turned into an interesting battle, with the veterans never actually coming into contact – but Dell giving his opposite plenty of sign language as he scored 2 early tries. Dell running to the other side of the field after scoring to give McDougall a nudge.
Sailor did dominate the opening 40 minutes – being on the end of 2 and geting his side to a handy 14-6 lead, each touchdown followed by a one and then two finger salute for MacDougall who was feeling the heat on the other side.
But come the second half, big Dell was gone – sitting on the bench icing a hamstring injury and it was McDougall’s turn. His side turning the screws, to grab an impressive win over the fancied Dragons.
The Knights now jumping up the NRL Ladder with 8 points to their name, standing in 4th spot prior to the completion of a few games in NRL Round 6. They continue to look good, as they’ve welcomed a few players back from injury and have been getting a good bounce of the ball to go with their nice form in recent weeks.
