Bird signs on with Titans for 2010

The newest NRL franchise; the Gold Coast Titans confirmed their deal with Greg Bird earlier today with the ex-Sharks pivot walking away from a juicy French Super League deal with the Catalans in favor of an NRL comeback

The new deal is for a single year, with multiyear options. It’s believed the first year could be as low as $100,000 AUD to keep the player under cap restrictions, with kickers coming in the following years.

The games governing body has also given the nod for Bird to return; with the star surely able to look at legal options against former employer Cronulla Sharks given his recent clearance in the NSW courts.

In addition, the player is believed to have been given several tight behavioural clauses within the contract by the Titans while Bird had a jail sentence quashed on appeal in a Sydney court- he has had other problems with late night indiscretions that landed him in hot water.

RickyRicardo : Credit to the Dragons. They had the attitude and it won them the game. I still can't see why Archer is supposedly the game's best ref though. I had Dragons supporters telling me at the game tonight that even they though some of the penalties were a joke. Such is footy though, so the Eels have to bounce back next week and play with a better attitude.

With Cooper and Tahu playing on the left wing/centre, it'll be tougher for Folau/Inglis to play their natural game.

NRL News : Tuiaki is expected to miss half to 3/4 of the NRL season. He required another operation only recently on his ankle.

Inglis is a bargain value at $190,000 or something and Hayne is good value as well, but I can't remember his price. The DT one is harder as the salary cap is less if I remember correctly.

He slotted into the halves in attack and still kicked regularly. Sure he got smashed a couple of times from kick returns, but what do you expect in his first game. I was expecting a lot worse punishment but the Tigpies were too farkin stupid to actually put a decent kick towards him.

RickyRicardo : Blair/Linnett I think will only get a crack barring injuries. You're more likely to have a backline of something like 1. Mini 2. SKD 3. Graham 4. Leilua 5. Perrett. It's difficult with that second centre position now that Carney will move back to the halves and the fact that a lot of the youngsters aren't quite ready for FG action yet. Not to mention Maubs move to the second row as well.
RickyRicardo : I still think Myles is better acquainted to the second row. Locks are traditionally ball-runners like Mateo and Tounge, and I think Maubs has better ball skills for that role then Myles does. It was on radio yesterday. He didn't think Carney played that well at FB and so he is moving back to the halves.

And Linnett is a good prospect, but I just think he needs a bit more time in reserve grade to fine-tune a few areas.

Unless a player receives a special provision of some sort, he is ineligible to play for an Indigenous side if he is not an Aborigine or Torres Strait Islander.

It'd be a great game to watch, but the NRL is stingy about the games that take place. They were reluctant to have the current All Stars v Aborigine side, but the Players Association and several corporate bosses at the NRL convinced them to get it started, and they did.
