Broncos edge out Cows 30-24

The new look Brisbane Broncos just managed to hold out the fast finishing Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium last night, with a 30-24 win for the home side.

Much was said about the lack of experience and recognised names in the Broncos side, but some deft touches by veteran Darren Lockyer and a strong debut by new custodian Corey Norman ensured Ivan Henjacks side managed to get away with the win.

The Cowboys were trailing 24 blot at one stage, until half back Jonathan Thurston fired them up and steered them back within range.

But the Broncos buoyed by a massive home crowd were to score again through Denan Kemp to ensure they got a first up win for 2010.

Most of the youngsters stood tall for Brisbane and will give fans plenty to cheer about in the coming season, it will be interesting to see how the Broncos go on the road in 2010 – however, the new brigade look impressive and won’t be the easy beats first thought.

The Cowboys were good in patches but were just not consistent enough, while Thurston, new boy Willie Mason and also Willie Tonga played well for North Queensland.

The Cows are at home next week to Penrith and the Broncos have got a tough roadtrip to the ACT to face the Raiders.
