The Cowboys have been out of sorts for some time and were expected to face a tough challenge against the Titans, even without Scott Prince running the Gold Coast. But tonight the Cowboys finally gelled winning 32-18 as coach Neil Henry opted to use new faces to inject life into the club.
North Queensland have been desperately missing Matt Bowen, and the experienced Ty Williams while solid – is not the youthful back he once was and tonight it seems coach Neil Henry realised it – injected Shannon Gallant into the back and it seemed to pay dividends.
Even Carl Webb and Steve Southern were stood down as Henry searched for answers from his side – and he may just have found those answers.
The new-look Cows were busy early, scoring three tries in the first period – a feat they have not managed so far this year. They built a decent enough lead to set themselves up and the Titans minus Scott Prince didn’t look to be the massive threat they had been previously.
Because they weren’t chasing points, it allowed Jonathan Thurston to play more relaxed and the no.7 didn’t disappoint – having a good game and bagging himself a late try and proving solid in defence when needed.
The Cows remain at home next weekend to the Wests Tigers – a team they have a good record over. The Titans are are home also, but face a big ask against the Melbourne Storm.
