In a worrying situation for NSW Origin, star outside back Timana Tahu has dropped a bombshell and quit the NSW State of Origin camp citing personal reasons.
At this stage, it’s not known the exact reasons surrounding Tahu’s personal life – however it seems the whole NSW outfit is going to great lengths to keep the situation under-wraps and away from the prying media eyes.
Joel Monaghan has been rushed in as a late replacement for Tahu, this in itself is surprising. Many expecting current 18th man Jamaal Idris to slot in or potentially try-scoring machine Michael Jennings to come into play.
However, none of this has eventuated.
Apparently Tahu met with coach Craig Bellamy early yesterday to explain the situation, and the Parramatta outside back was allowed to leave immediately.
It hasn’t been the ideal preparation by any means for the NSW Blues. After naming an extended squad that was trimmed to Bellamy’s liking – even veteran recruit Trent Barrett has had limited interaction with the squad after his wife gave birth to their 4th child.
As it stands, the task at hand for the Blues is getting tougher by the day. It’s going to be a massive game in terms of Origin history and the late reshuffles continue to hamper the harmony within the squad.
