Some said it would be a waste of time, a dead rubber. But tonights State of Origin clash for Game 3 still has plenty of meaning, despite the series already being wrapped up.

Queensland are desperate for a whitewash, something this stellar unit has yet to achieve. Throw in the fact they want to rub salt into the NSW wounds after the Blues threw the rough stuff at them in Game 2.

NSW are already in crisis. But while they are obviously playing for State pride, this is certainly a chance for some bolter Blues to establish themselves as future fixtures in the side.

Ok, well thats always tough given NSW selectors and officials love the revolving door policy. There has never been much loyalty in the NSW squad selection and this has always given Queensland a massive edge. It’s widely known, yet selectors and officials for NSW refuse to stick by the same group of players.

Whats all this mean?

There is plenty to play for. As the great Gus Gould says, there is never a dead rubber Origin. This is the big time and everyone wants to be a star and a winner.

Buckle up, here we go for another battle-royale. It’s Rugby League at its best.
