On top of what has been a fantastic week for the junior NYC competition with the team across the Tasman, the New Zealand Warriors taking out the junior title, Toyota have announced a new 2 year deal to stay on as sponsors of the competition.

Toyota, who were the founding sponsor of the cup in 2008, have committed once more, signing a 2 year deal that shows their underlying commitment to the cause, and that they wish to actively partake in the NRL on a regular basis.

The Toyota Cup is a junior competition that generally houses the younger players who are looking to become stars in the NRL at some point in the future.

This is not Toyota’s only involvement however, as they also have a Toyota Monster Raffle, which raises money for footy in the bush and at grass-roots level. This year, the total amount raised reached $650,000 which will help the bush clubs immensely.

“The Toyota Cup has transformed the way our next generation of NRL stars prepare for careers both on and off the field and I wish to thank Toyota for their ongoing support for a competition unique in Australian sport,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.

“One of the great strengths of our game is that local kids can become local heroes and the Toyota Cup provides an exciting pathway for them to do it.”

For proof that the Toyota Cup is a strong hunting ground for their big brother, the NRL, 5 players named in the Toyota Cup team of the year, have already tasted first-grade action, and will no doubt be itching for more in the future.

Mr Peter Webster, Toyota’s Divisional Manager of Marketing, has said that Toyota is stoked at the chance to renew their sponsorship with the NRL and the junior competition.

“Toyota is proud to be a driving force in providing education and career development training opportunities to Australia’s rising Rugby League stars,” Mr Webster said.

“What’s important to us is that the competition is not just about on-field activity, but instead aims to develop well-rounded individuals through varied education programs and we are especially pleased to be associated with grass-roots football through our volunteer of the year program and the Toyota Monster raffle.

“As the official vehicle sponsor of the NRL and Toyota Cup, Toyota looks forward to continuing its involvement with Rugby league, in particular those aspects of game development that will no doubt ensure the game’s future success.”
