After taking a back-seat to the scintillating play of Preston Campbell from fullback last year, Titans utility William Zillman has emerged as the front-runner to occupy the vacant fullback position, after Preston Campbell said he would play a super-sub type role off the bench.
The Titans first day of pre-season training is scheduled to begin today at the Centre of Excellence as they look to go that one step further and chase that elusive premiership title.
Zillman, who plied his trade on the wing last year, is just one of a few changes sweeping the Titans team as Campbell is expected to offer the role to Zillman, in an attempt to prolong his career as a super-sub.
It was back in 2006, when a young Zillman made a statement whilst playing fullback for the Canberra Raiders. In Campbell’s eyes, there is no better replacement at the back than Zillman.
“I think young Will Zillman is in line for my spot. It’s his time,” said Campbell.
Zilly has paid his dues and done the hard work, he put in some stellar performances when I was out injured last year so they’ll give him a go first cab off the rank.
“There’s also young Shannon Walker, so there’ll be some competition for the fullback position, but Will is the top of the table at the moment.”
Campbell believes that the Titans will once again be an NRL force in 2011.
“We’ve bought a few blokes who can add to the team but it will be our fifth season together now and the majority of us have been together from the start,” he said.
