After a break-out year in 2010 for the Tigers, he is still facing charges stemming from the previous assault of his current girlfriend, Taleah Backo.
After having the bail conditions altered in order to be with Backo, Lui is optimistic about 2011 and what it will bring.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Lui.
“(The baby’s) going to be something different in three weeks’ time but I can’t wait.
“It’s going to be a good way to start the season.”
Lui was perhaps one of the more unheralded players who guided the Tigers to the preliminary final, and he used the motivation of the future child coming upon discussions with Backo, as motivation for 2010.
“Last year I said I’m having a baby so I want to go better in my footy career and that’s what I want to do this year,” he said.
“It’s a bigger responsibility being a father.
“I’ve talked to guys like Toddy Payten and Gareth Ellis and Bryce Gibbs because they’ve all got little kids and they’ve helped me heaps.”
Lui’s focus is now to ensure that he can retain his spot from last year, and constantly improve his on-field chemistry with Golden Boot winner, Benji Marshall.
