The Broncos, who came from behind in this clash at Suncorp Stadium, were trailing 10-6 at the break, before taking the lead and going on to win the game 18-10, in front of 25,263 fans.
For the Broncos, against both the Raiders and the Titans in their first two games, they conceded just two points in the second half in both those games.
After a poor effort last week, the Panthers showed more hunger and a better attitude, but even their improved performance was not enough to get the victory.
Broncos young centre Jack Reed almost scored the try of the season, with a fantastic diving effort, but he just could not get his hand down to score the try.
Anthony Griffin, the Broncos coach is pleased at this side’s third win in a row, after losing his first game as coach against the North Queensland Cowboys in Rd 1.
“I’ll take them how we get them,” he said of another grinding win in front of 25,000 fans.
For Darren Lockyer, in his 337 game career, he cannot remember the last time he bombed a try, but he would have been kicking himself had it cost the Broncos the game.
“I got ahead of myself (in the 17th minute) I was thinking who was coming to congratulate me,” he said after putting down a pass from centre Justin Hodges with the tryline open.
For Panthers coach Matthew Elliott, whilst he acknowledged that his side played better than last week, he still sees room for improvement in many areas.
“We’re not a bunch of numpties even though it’s been written that way, that we are – you guys (the media) don’t know,” he said.
“We’re better than what we showed tonight. We’ll get there.”
