With many believing that a permanent move for him to the fullback position is not out of the question, particularly Penrith fans – the man they call ‘Flash’ has said that he would love to play in the position full-time.
Michael Gordon, a NSW candidate on the wing, has declared his desire to make the number 1 spot his own, with Lachlan Coote out injured until Rd 7.
Many have been impressed with Gordon’s work from the back when he has been given the opportunity in light of Coote’s injuries.
“It’s always good, unfortunate for Cootey, but it gives me a bit more freedom and I really enjoy playing there,” he said. “I definitely prefer it just because you’re always involved and you’re always around the ball.
“There’s nowhere to hide back there, so it sort of works both ways, but I really enjoy the challenge.”
Before being moved to the back, Gordon had little or no experience in playing in the role beforehand.
“I grew up playing in the halves. I came down playing centre and five-eighth so, I’d only fill in at fullback now and then,” he said.
“Last year I got a good run at fullback and I really enjoy it.”
Michael Gordon also remains hopeful that he can once again play Origin in 2011, in whatever position he is required to, should he be picked.
“Hopefully I can be picked in the first game and play the whole series,” he said.
“All I can do is try to play my best every week.”
