For Chris Heighington, after missing out on Origin last year, he seriously considered playing for England, as he was just torn at the fact that he missed out, despite a solid season up to that point.
“My dad is from England and I’m very proud of where he’s from and I was considering it,” Heighington said
Now, after being named in the Country side, Heighington feels like he has a very good chance of playing Origin this year.
“Over the last year or so I’ve been disappointed with not getting a look in at Origin, but this year I’ve been given an opportunity and I’m going to take it with both hands,” he said.
“My focus is on playing well against City on Friday night. It should be a good battle.
“I think Ricky Stuart had a big say in who got into these sides and that’s very good for the players who have been picked to know he’s considering us.”
Heighington is also pleased that some of his Tigers team-mates have been recognised, albeit for his opponents on Friday night, City.
“It’s great reward for the Tigers boys and I’m really happy for Simon Dwyer and Liam Fulton particularly, they’re great blokes and deserve their chance at this level,” he said.
“There won’t be any extra niggle out there. I’ll just be tackling my mates like they’re just another player.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
