After being under intense scrutiny since November last year, due to his part in the betting scandal, where he was identified as a one of the people placing bets on that now infamous Cowboys and Bulldogs game, he initially had no case to answer.
With the saga lingering in his mind for sometime now, Murray was not in the correct mental state to continue, and the Eels made the decision to cut Murray loose.
“I want to thank the Parramatta Eels for everything they’ve done for me,” Murray said.
“I need some time away from the game to focus on other interests and they’ve been very understanding of that.
“Hopefully I’ll be in a position to return to the game in the near future.”
Eels Chief Executive Paul Osborne said:
“Obviously it’s been a difficult time for Brad and all the best in the future. We hope to see him playing again soon”.
