Steve Matai

It was a long time coming, and in no way will it quell the doubts of many that Manly are pushing the cap – but representative forward Steve Matai has re-signed with the club, until the end of the 2015 NRL season.

The new deal was an extension to Matai’s existing deal, which was not set to expire until the end of the 2013 NRL season.

Matai, who has been at the club since 2005, the year he made his debut – is an important leader of the side, with Manly coach Geoff Toovey pleased to have retained the star centre.

“Steve is a vital part of our team and over the years he’s matured into a great leader,” Toovey said.

“The other boys love playing alongside him and that’s one of the best endorsements a footballer can get.”

David Perry, the Chief Operating Officer of the Manly football club, says that Matai re-signing is an additional boost for Manly.

“Steve has shown great loyalty to the club and we’re really pleased to be able to extend his contract,” Perry said.
