Kevin Kingston

With the demotion of the now-departing Luke Lewis as captain, fill-in captain for the remainder of the 2012 season Kevin Kingston, has said that he wants to keep the role for the 2013 season, at the Panthers.

Despite Kingston’s wishes however, coach Ivan Cleary says that no decision has been made at this stage, on who Penrith’s long-term captain heading into next season, will be.

“You can’t be in this business and not make tough decisions,” Cleary said. “They are always there to be made.

You either make them or you don’t. I think you have to make them if you want to get where you want to.

“We have a clear vision of where we want to get to as a club and we are still getting to a point I guess where we can build that foundation.

“But it is all about building a foundation for the future.”

When it came to the possibility of Kingston being the side’s long-term captain, Cleary said: “I haven’t made a decision on that. He is doing the job admirably at the moment. But I’ve said for a while here we have got to make some decisions in terms of leadership and building that into the future and we will do that when the time is right.”
