Featherstone swoop for talented Wildcats hooker

Andy Ellis

The Featherstone Rovers have received a boost heading into their season, with the permanent signing of Wakefield Wildcats hooker Andy Ellis, on a 2-year deal.

Ellis, who is no stranger to the Rovers club, having played 7 games for them during a loan spell this year, before returning to Wakefield to cover the club’s loss of Paul Aiton to injury.

Daryl Powell, the head coach at Featherstone, says that the club are excited to have Ellis signed on a permanent deal.

“Andy spent some time with us this season which gave both us and him an opportunity to see how he fits into the way we play. He is a proven player both in the Championship and Super League competitions, as his last eight appearances for Wakefield showed”, said Powell.

“His signing gives us strength in depth in all positions, with Ben Kaye playing outstanding rugby league this year. Andy’s signing gives us great options at hooker.”

Ellis, who was also a former hooker at the Barrow Raiders, is pleased to have his future sorted with Featherstone.

“It’s a great team with great lads and fantastic supporters. I look forward to working with everyone next year and hope I can contribute to another fantastic year. Good luck to everyone this coming weekend in the Grand Final, it’s a well deserved end to an awesome season and lets hope we retain our title!”
