Hull KR prop gets new opportunity at Wigan

Scott Taylor

It is a move that will not only strengthen Wigan’s side, but one that the player himself is looking forward to – as Hull KR prop Scott Taylor signs a 2-year deal with ESL powerhouse, the Wigan Warriors.

It seemed but a mere formality that the talented prop would leave the club, after he rejected a new offer to remain at Craven Park – resulting in Wigan pouncing talented, young forward.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane said the the club was pleased to acquire Taylor, a young, budding forward, who can become something special.

“I am really pleased to have secured the services of a talented British front-rower like Scott. He already has a good skill set, but the coaching staff at this club will improve him and take him to another level,” said Wigan head coach Shaun Wane.

“He is big, athletic and skillful, perfect for what I want as a middle player. He will thrive in our environment and will be a great asset to the club going forward.”

For Taylor himself, he knows that opportunities like these do not come around often – with the prop to play alongside former Robins team-mate Blake Green, who also joined Wigan.

“I’m over the moon a team like Wigan has come in for me; they are one of the best teams in the world and this is a massive opportunity for me,” Taylor said.

“I can’t wait to meet all my new team-mates and staff at the start of pre-season. I’m still in shock that I’ve signed for Wigan; it’s a dream come true for me.”

Taylor, who came through the Youth Development system at Hull KR – leaves club officials disappointed at his departure.

“Scott came to the club as a talented but raw youngster and we have developed him as a player and a person.

“It’s testimony to our youth development system that Scott has made the strides forward in the game that he has, and attracted the attention of clubs such as Wigan.

“We are sorry to lose a player of Scott’s undoubted potential, but as a club we move forward as we continue to identify and develop the best young players in the area.”
