Some Bunnies fans have been craving for the club to purchase a new winger, one to potentially start the 2013 season, and the club has done just that – securing the services of former Cronulla Sharks and Canterbury Bulldogs winger Bryson Goodwin, on a 1-year deal.

Goodwin, who has also represented New Zealand 4 times, and played 77 NRL games to date – was injured towards the end of the 2012 season, his last at the Dogs, due to a ruptured spleen.

For Goodwin, who confirmed via his Twitter account last week that he would be joining the Rabbitohs, is excited to be at the club, and he cannot wait to get stared.

“Yeah, I'm very happy and excited to be at the Rabbits,” said Goodwin.

“It's exciting times coming up for the club, they're going forward – so it's going to be a big year.”

With the pre-season not too far around the corner, and spots up for grabs, Goodwin knows that hard work will get him a first-grade spot, as he looks to play his first game of footy since suffering his spleen injury.

“Yeah, I can't wait – I had a pretty bad year last year with injury,” said Goodwin.

“Just to get back out there, it's going to be good.”

With a new club comes new expectations, and whilst he may not have bee

n at the club for long, Goodwin knows that the training process will be hard under Souths coach Michael Maguire, but it is one that the New Zealand representative looks forward to.

“Yeah, I have actually – he says it's going to be very tough, but you expect that now in pre-season,” Goodwin said.

“He looks like a fair coach and he knows what he's doing, so I just have to listen to him.”

Moving clubs is never an easy decision to make, but for Goodwin, it was a new opportunity for him to further his career, as he looks forward to the positive direction the club is headed in.

“I think they're just a great club and the fans are great,” said Goodwin.

“Like I said before, they're on the way up, so it's going to be an exciting year for the Rabbits.”

Maguire, coach of the club, is looking forward to the additional back-line depth, and is excited to have Goodwin on board at the club.

“Goodwin is a quality player with both first grade and international experience which will be invaluable for our backline,” Coach Maguire said.

“Unfortunately for him he had a season of injury in 2012, but he’ll be joining our squad for pre-season preparations, giving him the best chance to make first grade.

“He’s very professional in everything he does and we’re looking forward to him bolstering our options in the backs.”
