Travis Waddell

There was speculation that despite training and playing in the pre-season with the club that he would leave, but such speculation can be put to bed – as the Newcastle Knights confirm that Travis Waddell, a former hooker at the Canberra Raiders, has signed a 2-year deal with the club.

Waddell, who is expected to be named in the Knights for the first few rounds with both Danny Buderus and Matt Hilder injured, has played in 53 games for the Raiders.

“It is unfortunate to have both Matt and Danny unavailable, but we are fortunate we had Travis train with us in the pre-season and we are confident he will be ready to go for Round 1,” Knights CEO Matt Gidley said.

The club are pleased to have Waddell sign with the club, especially with the news that Hilder and Buderus will miss the start of the year.

“We are delighted to have secured Travis’ signature for the next two years,” Gidley said.

“With this season being Danny Buderus’ last, it will be great to have someone with Travis’ experience working alongside Danny, Matt Hilder and the host of young hookers we having coming through our system.

“Travis has a big future ahead of him and we can provide the best environment for him to reach his potential.”
