Jamie Dowling

All players know that their negative actions result in repercussions, and in the case of Gold Coast Titans player Jamie Dowling, it is no different, as he faced those ramifications from the club after he was caught driving to training whilst intoxicated.

Dowling, 22, who is regarded as a fringe player at the club, was caught driving to Titans training at more than two times the legal limit during an Easter weekend bender.

As a result, Dowling has been fined $650 and banned from driving for three months, with his lawyer Campbell MacCallum confirming that Dowling had learned his lesson and is now paying the price for it.

“He accepts he made a mistake and is now ready to move forward,” he said.

After a disciplinary hearing last month, the club made the decision not to terminate Dowling’s contract, so he was fined 25% of his salary, is set to undergo an alcohol education course and will undertake 100 hours of community service working with driver education and children in juvenile detention.

“Jamie is aware of his responsibilities and acknowledges he has made a mistake,” Titans chief David May said at the time.

“The club will work with Jamie to ensure he undertakes further education in relation to alcohol and driving.”
