He was in and out of NRL teams before his time at Newcastle but this year in particular, Robbie Rochow has become an important player in the forwards for the Newcastle Knights.
In career best form and stringing together a fantastic run of games, the back-rower has been rewarded for his form with the club handing him a new contract until the end of 2016.
Rochow, who hails from Newcastle, was originally at the Melbourne Storm before rejoining the Knights last year, with the club excited to have retained the 22-year old.
“Robbie is a local junior with the potential to be a future leader in our Club,†CEO Matt Gidley said.
“Robbie is a fantastic role model in our community and this new contract is a reward for his professionalism, attitude and consistent form.â€
No-one is more excited to remain at the club, however, than Rochow himself – with the Knights the team he supported growing up.
“I knew I wanted to stay at the Knights, it is a great playing group and coaching staff and I love the town, so there was nothing to consider when I got the offer,†Rochow said.
“I grew up supporting the Knights and to play with what I consider my good mates is what you work hard for and what you turn up to training everyday for and that is why I wanted to stay here.
“Last year I was lucky to get a one-year deal and then I got injuries. I was on the edge of not being an NRL footballer, so to finish last year like I did and to start this year like I have is a bit surreal but there is no better feeling than playing right now.â€
