Tigers sign talented Bulldogs prop on 3-year deal from 2014

Martin Taupau

Player movements are part and parcel of the NRL and we have seen another one today, as Canterbury Bulldogs forward Martin Taupau will join Sydney rivals the Wests Tigers on a 3-year deal, starting in 2014.

The deal, set to run through until the end of the 2016 NRL season, grants the local junior an early release to take up the deal with the Wests Tigers.

Although the Bulldogs woudl have liked to retain the young prop, with the offer from the Tigers they received, it was too good to pass up.

“Whilst we see Martin as a quality footballer and individual, the offer received from the Tigers was one that was hard to stand in the way of,” Greenberg said.

“He is aussie pokies someone that is a valued member of our squad but he will receive greater opportunities to play at the highest level at the Tigers.

“Martin will still be at the Club for the remainder of the year and we will see a lot more of him in the NRL throughout the season.”

Playing in seven games for the Bulldogs this season and 10 games last season, the former Australian Schoolboy representative is a player that the Tigers are looking forward to having at the club next year.

“Martin is a powerful player who will add plenty of size and strength and depth to the important front-row position,’’ Coach Mick Potter said.

“He will be a welcome addition to the forward pack next season.”
