NRL veteran signs with Newcastle for the rest of the season

Craig Gower

With uncertainty surrounding Danny Buderus and when he will return and with young players currently holding down the position of hooker in their NRL side, the Newcastle Knights have decided to recruit former Penrith Panther Craig Gower as additional cover, signing him for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Gower, who played in 238 games for the Panthers and represented both NSW and Australia was playing for English Super League side the London Broncos, and had done so for a few years.

With the versatility and experience of Gower, the club is excited to have the veteran on board.

“It will be wonderful to have someone with Craig’s experience join the Knights for the remainder of the year,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“We have obviously had a number of injuries this season and Craig can cover players like Danny (Buderus) and Kurt (Gidley).

“Craig is a renowned competitor and will provide confidence to our younger players, especially Adam Clydsdale, Travis Waddell and Tyrone Roberts, who are playing in those key positions.

“We are sure Craig’s commitment and competitiveness will be well received by our Members and supporters.”
