When you watch these two play footy, it is safe to say that they both have speed to burn and any talk of where their future lies can be dispelled, after Justin O’Neill and Sisa Waqa re-signed with the Melbourne Storm for 3 and 2 years respectively.
O’Neill, who worked his way up through the grades as a Melbourne Storm player, has won an NYC Premiership, an NRL Premiership and a World Club Challenge, and has even been a member of the emerging QLD Origin squad.
For Waqa, known as the ‘Fijian Flyer’, he has turned into a bit of a cult figure at the Storm, and has been praised for his consistency under the high ball and with his kick returns over the last two years.
It was back in 2011 when he trialled with the club for a contract and the winger has now been rewarded for his good form and consistency, with this new 2-year deal.
With the Storm firm believers in a retention strategy, General Manager of Football Online Blackjack Frank Ponissi says the re-signing of the duo is a sign that their retention policy is well and truly in place.
“Both Justin and Sisa are very important for Melbourne Storm and we are delighted to secure their signatures,†Ponissi said.
“One of Justin’s greatest assets is his speed, something everyone craves in rugby league. We believe Justin is just starting to reach his potential with exciting times ahead.
“Sisa has fast become one of the most popular figures at our club. He has worked extremely hard on all parts of his game; especially his work under the high ball and we are very pleased to have him in our colours until at least the end of the 2015 season.
“The club continues to negotiate with a number of non-contracted players, with a view of further announcements in the coming weeks.
In a further boost for the club, duo Junior Moors and Matt Duffie have taken up their 2014 options and will remain with the Storm for the duration of next season.
