Retaining players that come up through a club’s youth system is always imperative and the Castleford Tigers have done just that, with prop Nathan Massey signing a 1-year contract extension at the club.
The new deal, which will see Massey stay at the club until the end of the 2015 season is a deserved one, as the 23-year old who has played over 60 games for the club is excited to remain with the club.
“I’m over the moon to sign a 12 month extension to my contract with the Club,” said Massey.
“I’ve never looked for another Club as I’ve never wanted to leave – I’ve got a young family, my partner is happy where I am and she loves the Club too so I’m really delighted.
“Discussions on extending my contract started before Daryl was appointed at the start of May. Luckily when he came in, he said that he wanted to retain me which was brilliant.
It was following the Catalans game that Massey sat down with club owners and the coach to discuss a new deal, one that he hopes can lead into more rewards, as he signals his intent to become a long-term player at the club.
“I sat down with Daryl after the Catalan Dragons game and asked him about where he could see my future. Straight away he said that he wanted to keep carol burnett nude pokies me at the Club and that he saw my future here, so it was good that we were both on the same page just a couple of weeks after he came,” said Massey.
“I will have been here for quite a while when this contract is up but I will still only be 25-years-old, so it’s similar to Craig Huby who has been at the Club the longest and is one of the most senior guys. I just hope that I can keep kicking on, stay injury free and keep playing well for the Club.
“I’d like to thank the fans for their support and ask them to keep sticking with us by getting down in numbers for tomorrow’s match versus Hull FC – hopefully we will get a win for them.”
With the news that Massey would stay on for an additional season, it was welcoming for Castleford coach Daryl Powell.
“I am delighted that Nathan has agreed to extend his contract with the Club,” said Powell.
“He is a player who has improved significantly over the past few years and one who is still getting better every week.
“His commitment is excellent and his footwork and growing ability with the ball are qualities much sought after in a player.
“He is also an aggressive defender as his battle with Jamie Peacock in our last game versus Leeds Rhinos showed.”
