Sometimes, when a new opportunity in rugby league comes up, you jump at it, and for New Zealand Warriors winger Bill Tupou, that’s a decision he made – with the local junior making the decision to move on from the club to sign a deal with the Canberra Raiders effective immediately.
Granted the early release from his contract by the Warriors to take up the deal at the Raiders, it will run through until the end of 2015, a move that Tupou is excited about though thankful for everything the Warriors have done for him over the years.
“I’m disappointed to be leaving the Vodafone Warriors but I’m really excited about the opportunity the Raiders have given me,†said Tupou.
“I’ll take lots of great memories with me from my time here especially playing in the push button electronic cigarettes 2011 NRL grand final and all the mates I have. I’ll always be thankful for what the club has done for me ever since I came into the development squad but I want to play a lot more NRL football. Going to the Raiders gives me the best chance to do that.â€
Playing for the Auckland Vulcans of late, Tupou has played in 62 first-grade games to date and has scored 19 tries in the process.
With the need to bolster their outside backs due to a few players moving on at the end of the year, the Raiders are excited to have Tupou on board.
“Bill is a proven NRL talent and we’re very happy to have him join the club for the remainder of the season and the next two,†Furner said.
