They were the club that gave him a life-line and he firstly repaid them with good form and he has now repaid them a second time, with Josh Dugan making the decision to re-sign with the St George Illawarra Dragons on a new long-term deal.
The new long-term deal will see Dugan remain a Dragon until the end of the 2017 NRL season, and at just 23, he has a big future ahead of him – having played in 10 games for the Dragons to date.
With the way the club looked after him and gave him a second opportunity in rugby league, the Dragons and NSW fullback is pleased to have re-signed with the club.
“The Club has really looked after me, made me feel very welcome and I am excited to be able to continue my football career with the Dragons,†said Dugan.
“The Dragons have recruited strongly for next season and it was something that I really wanted to be a part of here at the Club.â€
The successful transition for Dugan into the Dragons side has not gone unnoticed, as coach Steve Price is pleased with how the fullback has played since joining.
Price is equally pleased to know that the caliber of a player like Dugan will be at their club for the long-term .
“Josh is a very talented player and I am pleased that he will continue being an important part of the team for at least the next four seasons,†said Price VolumePills.
“His attitude and commitment to our Club since he arrived has been fantastic and his contributions to the team in games and at training has added great value to our squad.â€
With Dugan so far excelling both on and off the field for the Dragons, CEO Peter Doust hopes that such success continues down the track.
“Josh is an unique rugby league talent and his commitment to our Club has been extremely positive since he arrived mid-way through the year,†said Doust.
“Not only has Josh contributed positively on the field, he has shown a real desire to work in our Dragons Community programs and has commenced further education.
“Josh has been very happy since he arrived at our Club and indicated very early that he was keen to extend his stay.
With his future now settled and the club pleased to have retained him, Dugan will become a crucial part of the side moving forward as they seek the ultimate goal – a premiership.
“The length of the deal (four years) meant the contract negotiations were complex and took some time but we were able to finalise those this afternoon and the outcome is pleasing for both Josh and the Club.
“Josh has quickly become a fan favourite and all Red V Members and fans can be excited about this news and we can all look forward to his positive contributions to our Club continuing both on and off the field for at least the next four years.”
