Matt Prior

With the St George Illawarra Dragons confirming his departure, the Cronulla Sharks have acted swiftly and signed back-rower/centre Matt Prior on a 2-year deal.

Prior, who is an Illawarra junior from the Thirroul region, has so far played in 120 first-grade games after making his debut in 2008.

With the retirement of Ben Ross, Jon Green and Mark Taufua, Sharks coach Shane Flanagan believed forward depth was crucial for his side and he is pleased to have signed Prior.

“Matt is a quality player and someone with plenty of experience who will add to the depth we have in the forwards,” Flanagan said.

“He has shown he has the ability to play a number of positions but we are looking for him to play in the forwards, front row-second row, for us and are confident he will be a valuable addition to our squad.”

Prior will join fellow Sharks recruit Blake Ayshford at the club in November for pre-season training.
