The bid itself may seem rather audacious from the South Africans but they are keen to host the 2017 Rugby League World Cup and have recently received some strong support, with Steeden South Africa putting their hand up in support of the bid.

That news is coupled with other news that Steeden South Africa will be the official licensee of all World Cup merchandise, should South Africa win the right to host the 2017 World Cup.

Jacque van der Merwe is in full support of the bid and says that Steeden are 100% committed to the sport of rugby league and to South Africa’s bid.

“Steeden SA is synonymous with success and quality and we plan to be part of that success,” said Van Der Merwe.

“We are committed to the sport and we are confident that all the clubs and supporters will see and understand this commitment and support the brand in the coming years.”

Kobus Botha, who is currently President of the South African Rugby League is thankful the support that Steeden and Jacque have shown over the years and is excited about the potential for new merchandise down the track.

“Jaque has shown his commitment to rugby league over the years,= and this latest sponsorship only highlights what amazing support we have enjoyed from him,” said Botha.

“I for one am excited about the new merchandise being launched and encourage all rugby league supporters in South Africa and abroad to support the brand and buy their replica and supporters gear.”
