Where opportunity awaits, a player will go and for Justin Poore, who was at Wakefield, the former NRL prop took up an offer with fellow English Super League side Hull KR after he signed a 2-year deal.
Poore, 28, is a former Australian schoolboy and enjoyed NRL stints at the St George Illawarra Dragons and Parramatta Eels, playing Origin for NSW during that time – whilst at the Dragons.
For Poore, he had every intention of returning to Wakefield for the pre-season but after he got word of the interest in him by Hull KR from his manager, he made the decision to sign with the Rovers side instead.
“I finished last season at Wakefield and had all intentions of going back there,†he said.
“But then a week before I was due back for pre-season, I got a phone call from my manager asking if I’d be interested in joining Hull KR.
Making the trek to Hull KR easier is the chance to play alongside mates and for Poore, he will know a good friend of his, Michael Weyman, in particular.
As well as Weyman, Poore has also played alongside or against both Kris Keating and Neville Costigan.
“One of my best mates in Michael Weyman is coming here and I’ve also played alongside the likes of Neville Costigan and Kris Keating,” said Poore.
“They were all factors in me coming here and it’s definitely a club that’s on the up. I know we made the eight last year and having bought really well during this off-season, I think we can have a good year next year. I’m just stoked to be on board.â€
With experience vital for any side, Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock is looking forward to Poore getting stuck into footy.
“Justin is a good, experienced player who has played the game at the highest level and I was impressed with the way he adapted to the Super League last season,” said Sandercock.
“The likes of him, Michael Weyman and Neville Costigan will bring a lot of professionalism both on and off the field and I’m looking forward to seeing them in a Hull KR shirt.
