Sam Wood

Retaining players that have the potential to become the next big star is crucial and for the Bradford Bulls, they see Sam Wood in that category, as the youngster re-signs with the club until the end of 2016.

Seen as a tremendous rising talent coming through the ranks, it was back in 2010 when Wood joined the Bulls, with the former Under 19’s academy captain making three appearances in first-grade for the Bulls this year.

For Wood, he is excited to have the new deal all sorted and said there was no hesitation when it came to signing the deal, as Bradford are the club for him.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been offered a new contract to stay at Bradford,” said Wood.

“This is the club I want to be at and so there was zero hesitation when it came to me re-signing.

“I think this could be the start of something very special and I want nothing more than to succeed as a Bradford Bull.”

Eager to play in more Super League games after getting a taste of it, Wood knows that the opportunity is there for him to take and he is excited to be in and around the experience players at the Bulls during training.

“I have played a few Super League games now and I am hungry for more,” said Wood.

“Next year will be full of opportunity, with players fighting it out for spots in the team, and I am ready for the challenge.

“Pre-season training is going really well, I am loving being around the first-team squad full-time. The players who have come in are very exciting and hugely talented, and I believe there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about 2014.”

Someone who is pleased to see Wood stay with the club – a contract he fully deserves – is coach Francis Cummins who has been pleased with the work that Wood has done and put in.

“He has been absolutely brilliant after earning a couple of opportunities in Super League and we believe he will only get better from here,” said Cummins.

“The new deal is a reward for Sam’s hard work and effort. He is developing superbly and having captained the under-19s, I feel he has a big future here.

“His commitment has been fantastic and he is only going to further improve.”
