Mark Offerdahl

Hot on the Eels of Bureta Faraimo earning a big opportunity in rugby league and signing with the Parramatta Eels, fellow American World Cup representative Mark Offerdahl has done the same, signing with the North Wales Crusaders for the 2014 season.

Offerdahl, who was a key in the American World Cup side last played in the French Elite Championship, will team up with a former team-mate of his in Stuart Reardon with head coach Clive Griffiths pleased to have signed the hulking prop.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Mark has agreed to sign with us, I believe he’ll be a really important player for us next year,” said Griffits.

“Considering the amount of attention he was receiving from Super League clubs and also an enquiry from at least one NRL outfit, the fact he has decided to come to Crusaders is a major coup.”

“I think the timing was just perfect, as had he come to the attention of the top coaches a little earlier in the year he’d have undoubtedly been snapped up.”

Equally ecstatic is the club’s Chief Executive Jamie Thomas, who knows that having Reardon whisper in the ear of Offerdahl was a major bonus in signing him.

“We’ve really got to thank Stuart quite a bit for getting in Mark’s ear and telling him what a great place to be Crusaders is,” said Thomas.

“I’ve no doubt he’ll fit in well with the boys and we can look forward to the year ahead.”

“Also, before anyone else claims it, I came up with the Cru.S.A chant first!!”
