Brisbane NRL Expansion Bid team, the Brisbane Bombers, will sponsor the first Brisbane-based powerhouse Rugby League match of 2014, the inaugural Pre-Season Charity Cup, between 2012 grand finalists Melbourne Storm and Canterbury–Bankstown Bulldogs, on Sunday February 23 at Suncorp Stadium.

The Brisbane Bombers are thrilled to help deliver a top-flight game to hungry South-East Queensland League supporters who will be starved of a pre-season game at Suncorp Stadium due to the NRL All Stars match being shelved for 2014. With NRL expansion looming, the Brisbane Bombers NRL Expansion Bid are keen to demonstrate that Brisbane has the goods to support more great Rugby League with a healthy turn out at Suncorp Stadium.

The Brisbane Bombers NRL Expansion Bid team is led by CEO Nicholas Livermore and an advisory board comprised of notable Brisbane business men and women, with former League great and proud Queenslander Billy Moore acting as one of their ambassadors.

Mr Livermore says that three years in, the bid team remains committed to bringing more great Rugby League to Brisbane with hopes of securing a second team to join the 2018 NRL premiership season. Currently Brisbane is home to just 12 games a season compared to more than 100 games in Sydney, so the market is ripe for more NRL action.

“Brisbane has the population, corporate support, infrastructure and love of the game to justify another NRL team base here in Queensland’s great capital city,” says Mr Livermore. “We’re committed to building a club that is successful both on the field and off in terms of engagement with all levels of the community and with a focus on grassroots development.”

The Brisbane Bombers HQ and training base will be part of a bigger redevelopment based at Doomben Racecourse, with all home games to be played at Suncorp Stadium.

The Brisbane Bombers intend on developing a strong Brisbane fan base as well as focusing on the northern corridor up to and including the Sunshine Coast as part of a bigger membership, development and grassroots footprint that will tap into the Sunshine Coast’s significant player base. The Brisbane Bombers recently announced they would help bring both the Melbourne Storm and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs to the region for pre-season training camps before and after the February 23 clash.

Tickets to the Pre-Season Charity Cup are affordably priced to attract a strong Sunday afternoon crowd of families, supporters and sports lovers. Corporate facilities are also available at record low prices for a match featuring two Rugby League heavyweights.

At the request of the Brisbane Bombers, part of the proceeds from the match will go to three beneficiaries the Bid supports in Brisbane-based charities Mates4Mates and White Cloud, as well as the Sunshine Coast-based Wishlist Foundation.
