Expansion for any rugby league nation is crucial and in Ireland, where rugby league is still growing and developing as a sport, Dublin will now host a team in the city’s West, with the Ballyfermont Bears to move there.

Now to be known as the West Dublin Bears, the entire move also signals a complete relaunch of the club, with sponsors soon to be confirmed to grow the brand and raise awareness.

With the developments a good step forward for the Bears and for Irish rugby league in general, Chairman Conor Kelly hopes this is the start of a solid team built around good play and healthy growth.

“These are very exciting times for everyone at the club with the new name which hopefully will attract more players and supporters from 2014 on wards. We have also managed to secure new sponsors as well as renewing existing deals which is a massive positive for the club,” said Kelly.

“Our plan now is to transfer these positive developments off the field onto it with an improved season. We would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters for their help so far and we are looking forward to making even bigger announcements in the comings days.”
