Marika Koroibete

He is big, powerful and runs like the wind and despite some top form in the NSW Cup this season, he has been unable to crack the Wests Tigers first-grade squad.

So, with an opportunity to play for the Melbourne Storm, hulking winger Marika Koroibete leaped at the chance and took it with both hands, signing with the club for the remainder of the season.

The deal will also see Koroibete stay in the Victorian capital for seasons 2015 and 2016.

With depth crucial in the modern age of rugby league, the club knew that with several likely departures from their current back-line stocks, it was important they shored it up.

Signing Koroibete was a great way to cease that void and the Storm’s General Manager of Football is pleased to have signed the man nicknamed, ‘the Fijian Flyer’.

“An opportunity came up to bolster our depth to our outside backs and with limited chances at the Tigers this season, we saw Marika as an exciting talent who was coming off contract at the end of the season,” Ponissi said.

“Marika has displayed outstanding form in the NSW Cup, he is the leading try scorer of the competition with 15 and we see his signing as adding strength to our roster.”
