On the back of the introduction of the Bethal Broncos, South African rugby league have continued their strong recent development, with the Pretoria East Rabbitohs officially joining the ranks as a South African club.

The new club will play under the Northwest Province along with the Stilfontein Hurricanes and although they are a new club, they have some experienced players and coaches at their disposal.

Their management structure and personnel is also impressive with experienced trio Tjaart Van Der Walt, Jonothan Soares and Deon Kraemer all involved with the club in some capacity.

Furthermore, the club will play out of their home base in Pofchefstroom, with the South African Rugby League Board pleased to have yet another team introduced.

“The board and myself are very excited about the second club to join the Northwest Province” said Kobus Botha, SARL President.

“SARL does not want to open clubs to simply make up numbers, but rather focus on sustainable club development, linked to regional tertiary institutions.”

The Rabbitohs will play in the Protea Cup alongside the Hurricanes and another recently formed team, the Bethal Broncos.
