Izaac Thompson

Retaining local talent is imperative for any team and the St George Illawarra Dragons have continued their strong junior retention drive, with two more players re-signing.

That duo is utility back Izaac Thompson – re-signed until until the end of 2017 – and Jack Kavanagh, who has re-signed until the end of 2016.

Both are graduates of the club’s high performance unit program and the club are pleased that Thompson has come along as a player.

“It is welcoming news to announce the re-signing of Izaac and Jack who are both graduates of the Club’s High Performance Unit programs,” said Dragons Recruitment Manager Ben Haran.

“Izaac has demonstrated physically some good attributes in the positions that he can play on the field.

“He has had some hard luck this season having suffered several injuries but is looking forward to next year’s pre-season and reaching the next level in his game.”

As for Kavanagh, he has enjoyed a stellar season for the Dragons Holden Cup side and as a result, the club felt his form warranted a contract extension.

“Jack came through our external High Performance Unit program that we hold in the Central West of New South Wales and was monitored for several years,” said Haran.

“He has stepped-up to the challenges of playing in the Under 20’s this season and warrants the opportunity to continue his development at the Club.”
