Cowboys utility back re-signs new long-term deal

Michael Morgan

2014 was his best year to date and it was the reason behind Michael Morgan gaining selection to start the 2015 season. Now, ahead of their clash this week in Rd 2 of the premiership, Morgan has re-signed with the North Queensland Cowboys until the 2018 season.

A Townsville Brothers junior, it was an easy decision for Morgan and one that he was pleased to finalise.

“I’m really excited and happy with my decision. There’s a good group of boys that we’ve got here for another couple of years,” Morgan said.

“There’s been a lot of loyalty shown by the boys at the moment so I wasn’t looking to leave, I’m happy here.

“Greeny is keen for me to stay around which is good to know.”

It was back in 2010 when Morgan made his debut and despite some sporadic appearances over the years, he has since cemented the fullback spot as his own after a stellar 2014 season.

With call-up to the Four Nations Kangaroos squad, an Australian Prime Minister XIII’s jumper and voted as the 2014 Members’ Player of the Year, the club knew how important it was to re-sign Morgan.

“It’s important that we keep young players like Michael at the Cowboys,” Football General Manager Peter Parr said.

“He is a dynamic player and we are excited to see Michael develop into a great footballer at the Cowboys.”
