Coen Hess

The North Queensland Cowboys are famous for producing quality talent and they have retained one of their best, with back-rower Coen Hess re-signing until 2018.

Hess, who has shone in the NYC so far – as well as last year – is a player that the club aimed to keep and for the man himself, there is no place he would rather be.

“I’m really excited to stay here and I wanted to show some loyalty to the Cowboys,” Hess said.

A Mt Isa product, Hess began his first year in the Cowboys NYC program at 17, and has become a permanent fixture in the NYC under-20s with 17 games under his belt so far.

“I feel really comfortable in Townsville. I feel my football is thriving under the great staff at the Cowboys and I love playing with the boys here and look forward to some great results this season,” he said.

At 112kg, Hess is a big unit and was a member of the winning Townsville Stingers side in the national U18’s competition.

The club are just as pleased to retain him, with Cowboys recruitment manager Clint Zammit well aware of Hess’ talents and potential.

“Coen has a great shape for a back-rower. He’s an intelligent player and we look forward to him continuing to develop at the Cowboys,” said Zammit.

“We’re delighted he has committed long-term to the club.”
