He may still be new to the club but already, Fuifui Moimoi is achieving cult hero status at the Leigh Centurions among the fans.
To cap off a solid start for him at the club, Moimoi has re-signed for a further season, a boost for the high-flying Championship club.
In his new adopted home-town of Leigh, all the talk this week has been about Moimoi and his post-try celebration last week, when he jumped into the crowd and thanked the fans.
Popular with the fans already, Paul Rowley, the Centurions’ head coach, knows how good Fui is and is not surprised that he is performing well nor that the fans adore him as a player and a person.
“Fui has started his Leigh career with the consistently high standards that have seen him succeed at the very top for many seasons,” said Rowley.
“His hunger for success is strong and he has a strong drive to be a part of bringing success to the Club. I am delighted to see Fui continue the journey with us by extending his current contract and am looking forward to seeing the ever increasing influence he has on the team.â€
The option to re-sign Moimoi always existed and for Leigh’s Head of Rugby, Derek Beaumont, he wanted to ensure that Moimoi felt at home at the club and to offer him some additional stability.
“The signing of Fuifui Moimoi really did elevate this Club to a different level. At the time there was always going to be an element of risk which I wanted to minimise by building in the option.
“Although Fui has more to give, it is plain to see he is still the amazing player he always has been and I wanted him to have the comfort and security early on to really settle in. He is just as amazing off the field and is a massive part of our ‘Famileigh.’
“He is already, in such a short space of time, having a direct influence on the other boys and things can only get better with Fui in our camp. The way the fans have embraced him has been immense and he always shares a smile every time he hears them chant his name.â€
