Ray Thompson

Whilst he might currently be injured, his ability as a player is never in question and that is what prompted the North Queensland Cowboys to re-sign hooker, Ray Thompson.

The new deal will see Thompson re-sign until the end of the 2017 season, one that he is pleased to have signed.

“Absolutely it’s a great feeling to be able to continue my time at the Cowboys,” Thompson said.

“We (Thompson and partner Sabrina Galliozzi) have a baby on the way and being around the family with a club that’s always done the right thing by me is just fantastic.

“I’m really grateful to continue at the club for another two years.”

With 94 NRL games to date in his career, it was in Rd 13 of this year when Thompson fractured his cheekbone and whilst he is recovering from that injury, it is a matter of time before he returns to the side.

2009 is when Thompson made his debut and since that time, he has had to work hard and play hard to forge his way into the Cowboys side.

Knowing what he brings to the table as a player and as a local junior, the club are excited to retain Thompson.

“Ray’s a terrific player, he’s a North Queensland junior and we’re delighted to have him remain at the club for the next two years,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Peter Parr said.

“He’s definitely proven his toughness and versatility over the years, and given he’s only 25, there’s plenty of very good rugby league still in him.”
