Will Matthews

Having found the club that has welcomed him, it is no surprise that Will Matthews has re-signed with the St George Illawarra Dragons for a further two seasons.

Given more opportunity in light of some injuries, Matthews’ form was good enough to cement a first-grade spot.

Still only 27, it was prior to the start of the 2012 season that saw Matthews join the Dragons side and to date, he has played in a total of 65 NRL games.

Matthews, the Kyogle Turkeys junior, is versatile and can play across the forward pack, and was recently named in the NSW Cup representative side.

“I am very happy to be able to continue representing the Dragons and am focused now on playing to the best of my ability under Head Coach Paul McGregor,” said Matthews.

“It was an easy decision for me to make given my family and I are very settled in the area and for myself being able to play alongside quality players here at the Club.”

Just as pleased with the decision by Matthews is the Dragons Director of Recruitment and Retention Peter Mulholland.

“It is great news that Will has decided to continue his stay and this is a real sign of confidence for what Paul McGregor is building here at the Club,” said Mulholland.

“Will is a versatile player who has a very strong work ethic which is reflected in the way he both conducts himself during training as well as on the field when representing the Dragons.”
