The last few seasons have been a rollercoaster ride for Jy Hitchcox as he made his debut for the Wests Tigers in 2014, made a move to the Featherstone Rovers for 2015 and now gets to fulfil a dream. Playing Super League.
Hitchcox will join the Castleford Tigers, after signing with them for the 2016 season with the club having a further option to extend that to 2017.
Showing his skills across those years and also in the NSW Cup during his time at the Tigers, the utility back is excited to have the chance to play Super League.
“I’m so excited to head back to the UK and to join Castleford Tigers,” said Hitchcox.
“The chance to play Super League is a dream come true. I’m really impressed by what I’ve seen of the team and getting the chance to work under Daryl Powell is awesome.
I’m looking forward to heading straight into pre season training, and knuckling down to some hard work.â€
Castleford’s squad is now finalised and coach Daryl Powell is thrilled that it has ended with the signing of Hitchcox.
“I’m delighted to finalise our 2016 squad with the addition of a player who I feel will prosper in our environment,” said Powell.
“Jy will provide quality competition in our outside backs, he has real speed and his footwork will trouble defences of any level.
He is a player who is hungry to prove himself in Super League and I am confident in his ability to do just that.â€
Also looking forward to seeing the utility back at the club is Castleford CEO, Steve Gill.
“I’m sure that Jy will become an important part of our 2016 team,” said Gill.
“His versatility to play anywhere in our back line will make him an excellent addition to what is already a very good squad.â€
