Up there as one of the more bizarre rugby league injuries you will read about, Manly’s Dylan Walker has not only injured his hand – thus facing up to 4 weeks out – but he has also been issued a breach notice and fined $10,000 in the process.
As the following statement from the Manly Sea Eagles alludes to, Walker became frustrated and lashed out at his wooden apartment door, injuring his hand in the process.
Manly’s full statement reads as follows:
“Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have today issued centre Dylan Walker with a breach notice and fined him $10,000 following an incident on Saturday night.
Walker damaged his right hand in the incident at his apartment and will subsequently miss up to a month of football.
Walker and his partner met with Sea Eagles officials early this morning.
They admitted Walker struck out with frustration and stupidity when he had trouble opening the wooden front door to his apartment.
He and his partner immediately drove to the casualty department of St Vincents Hospital for x-rays and treatment.
Walker had been out with several team mates in Manly up until around 10pm on Saturday night, with the players having the weekend off as a result of the bye.
Walker will have further scans on his right hand today.
The Club has advised the NRL Integrity Unit of the incident and will make no further comment on the matter.”
