Shane Flanagan

A big reason behind their success so far this season, the Cronulla Sharks have received a boost ahead of the finals series, re-signing coach Shane Flanagan for a further three seasons.

The new deal for Flanagan will run until the end of the 2019 season, who was already contracted for 2017.

In his sixth season as Sharks head coach, Flanagan is pleased and excited to continue his tenure.

“The new contract and that I’ll be here another couple of years is reassuring but the club is heading in a great direction and I’m proud to be a part of it,” Flanagan said.

“We’ve had a successful season so far this year, but there is a lot of footy left to be played.”

With a decorated career as a player – 78 career first-grade games – and as a coach – stints in the Parramatta junior levels and as an assistant coach at both the Roosters and Sharks – the club are aware of his pedigree.

“Strong football clubs have great leadership at all levels and Shane epitomises that,” Gorman began. “He’s driven very hard the football component of our business and he’s been an incredible asset for our club,” said CEO Lyall Gorman.

“He’s a wonderful fit for our culture.”
