It has been quite some time since he would have donned any sort of Newcastle jersey or played in the area but he has returned home now, with Anthony Tupou signing for the 2017 with the Newcastle Knights.
With a total of 234 NRL games to his name, Tupou has had representative honours, overseas stints in England and provides crucial experience for a Knights side that is one of the youngest in the NRL overall.
With the emergence of some of their promising forwards, they will need a forward leader and a player like Tupou, having been around the game for so long, is the perfect foil and mentor to help guide them through.
“We’re very pleased to bring Anthony to the Club ahead of the 2017 season,” coach Nathan Brown said of the signing.
“He has a wealth of experience in this competition and will be able to assist in the development of our younger forwards.”
He has joined the club immediately.
